Jacksonville, NC - Jason Thigpen will not be running for the US House of Representatives in North Carolina’s Third Congressional District.
Upon making the decision not to file for office, Thigpen made the following statement:
“After much thought and prayer I’ve made a conscious decision not to run for Congress during this election cycle. I’ve learned a lot about myself and about politics during this campaign as well as what is required to run a successful campaign.
“I’m so thankful for the love and support of my wife, our children, our family and friends and the many new friends I’ve made through this journey. I sincerely appreciate all of the great support I’ve received from the people of the 3rd Congressional District. I am also deeply grateful for my campaign staff, our consultants and our interns who brought such phenomenal willingness and talent to our efforts.
“Though I won’t be serving in Congress, I will continue to stand up for the people of North Carolina’s Third Congressional District and for all Americans. Thus, no matter how forcefully the Tea Party wing of the GOP endeavors to suppress the vote, strip women of their rights, push people of color to the back of the bus and keep our children from developing the 21st century skills, I will stand against them. I will continue to fight for the things that are important to our communities-decent jobs that allow breadwinners to provide for their families, quality education for our children and grandchildren, an unfettered opportunity to vote, equal rights for all citizens, a path to citizenship for immigrants, clean air and water for future generations, protecting Social Security and Medicare for our senior citizens, and protecting the benefits earned by and owed to our veterans and military families.
“As for who I’m supporting in the Congressional race for North Carolina’s 3rd District, I’m voting for Marshall Adame and I hope you do the same.”
